The watch is based upon a Mikrograph stopwatch, created in 1916, which was one of the epic pieces that set a small milestone in the world of horology. The Mikrograph stopwatch was the first watch ever to measure time up to the 1/100th accuracy.

The TAG Heuer Carrera Mikrograph reaches another high point by being the world’s first ever mechanical chronograph with 1/100th of a second display by a central hand.


The design


The contemporary design of the new Carrera Mikrograph very much recalls the original stopwatch’s design. As you can see on the pictures, the dial is marked by the progression of large Arabic numerals from 0 to 100. The blue central hand belongs to a chronograph and completes one rotation per second. The same color was used for the stopwatch hand, almost a century ago.

The case

The case is crafted in 18-carat pink gold and measures 43 mm in diameter, surrounding the dial presented in the harmony of color contrasts. The tobacco brown sunburst surface for the central chronograph functions is framed by the milky white ring, offering the timeless appeal of a classic watch. The chronograph functions include: minutes at 3 o’clock, seconds at 6 o’clock, and small seconds at 9 o’clock. A discrete aperture at 6 o’clock indicates the date, while the reversed arrow at 12 o’clock serves as a power reserve indicator.

The TAG Heuer Carrera Mikrograph replica watch uses an in-house COSC-certified movement. The movement is equipped with two balance wheels, separate escapements and transmission systems. The chronograph balance wheel beats at amazing 360.000 vibrations per hour, at 50 hertzs. The movement is equipped with 62 jewels and provides 42 hours of watch power reserve, and 90 minutes of chronograph power reserve. The movement is visible through the transparent sapphire crystal caseback.

One of the most interesting advantages of this watch is that the wearer can start and stop chronograph functions independently of watch functions. The watch is automatically wound, but the chronograph still demands manual winding when the power reserve is depleted. The mastercrafters from TAG Heuer connected the barrels in such a way that winding the chronograph also winds the watch.
